Frequently Asked Questions
How much does a website cost?
The cost of a website can vary depending on various factors. Our website projects generally start in the £1200 range for basic business sites and range upward depending on your unique needs.
How does the payment process work?
The project starts with a 50% deposit. After design sign off we move into the development and testing stage. Once we have completed and fulfilled our scope, the final 50% is collected and your website is then scheduled for launch.
What type of businesses do you work with?
We work with a broad range of company types from small start-ups to large corporations and nonprofits. Our clients come from many business industries including technology, food, clothing, health + beauty and many more.
What platform do you build your websites on?
We build our websites on various platforms depending on the functionality required by our clients. Most of our sites are built using WordPress.
Can you help me update my website that another firm built?
Yes we can. We will need access to make changes to your existing website but our team will explain everything we need to assist you.
Can you help me write content for my website?
Yes. We can include copy writing and editing into our proposals. We also build your sitemap and help structure the foundation of your website in the information gathering and planning stage.
Can you help me source photos for my website?
Yes. We will help you source stock photos from sites such as Adobe Stock and Getty Images. We also have photographers and videographers available to produce custom photography and videos for your website.
How do I get to number one spot on Google?
Ah, so many emails with promises of “Number one on Google”. Sadly, there are many people in our industry that are dishonest about rankings. The truth is, you can’t promise number one spot because Google is always repositioning sites based on a number of factors. It takes dedication, lots of content and lots of effort to rank well organically. Fortunately, we know how to give you a fighting chance to start ranking on Google. In the mean-time Pay Per Click or Google Adwords will pop you up the top for some quick wins, paying for this privilege is very worthwhile. Building up both campaigns simultaneously can help you see where best to invest your money.
What is a domain name and why do I need one?
Basically, a domain name is the name of your website. So, if you’re called ‘Acme Widgets’, you should try and register a domain name starting with ‘acmewidgets’ and ending in a suffix relevant to your country or type of business. A suffix is the ‘bit’ at the end of your website address. Well known suffixes like .com, .co.uk and .org are very popular, but there are dozens of different suffixes available now ranging from .london to .xxx!
I only need a simple site...
The vast majority of websites we build are ‘brochure’ sites for businesses and organisations that are not trying to sell anything online. Brochure sites can have a variety of objectives including marketing, information, advice, lobbying, communication within a community, discussion forum and so on. This does not mean that brochure sites should not be exciting, topical and creative.
What is an SSL certificate and why do I need one?
An SSL certificate is a digital certification to show that the connection between a users browser and the database the website is hosted on is secure. It provides security for data input, particularly for payment details. This helps to keep details safe and provide peace of mind to the user, so is recommended for most if not all websites to adopt.
Will you provide a backup of our site if requested?
Yes and at no cost! Once we have completed and fulfilled our scope, if asked, we will provide a one-time full backup of your website. If additional backups are needed there is a minimal cost of generally £50 for additional backups.
Is there any training provided?
We run through the administration screens with you when we design the site for you – however if at any time you have any questions we are available to run through the procedures or answer any queries you may have. If you require more advanced training our qualified trainer can provide a bespoke solution.
What about uptime?
Our dedicated servers come with a 99.99% uptime guarantee. We take downtime seriously and required server maintenance and upgrades are always scheduled during off-peak times by our management team at the data center.
Is my hosting fee refundable?
Unfortunately we do not offer refunds on our web hosting accounts for any reason.
How do I know I will like the website?
Don’t worry, at Expand Digital Media everything is explained simply. Once we start a website design we will assess your requirements, advise what we require from the client, then outline options, alternatives and timescales.
